When You Are Weak, Then You Are Strong
When you have a bunch of kids and juggle a lot of things, people will often ask the “how do you do it all?” question. My answer is always the same: not very well & with a lot of help.
My big hack for “doing all the things” is to release the illusion and idol of control and perfection and get very comfortable with your own weakness and shortcomings. The key to spinning a lot of plates is being ok with dropping one every once in a while, asking for help or forgiveness as you pick up the pieces, & keeping on with the spinning, identity in tact.
If you come to my home, you’ll find a basket of laundry in the living room, dishes in the sink, and a simple, three ingredient meal on the table. I probably forgot the poster board for the project and didn’t make the appointment again. I’m definitely sending store bought cupcakes into school and haven’t been on Pinterest in years.
These things used to eat me up, because I thought my kids were missing out on the mom they deserved. But now I believe (most of the time) that God is bigger than my limitations, stronger than my weakness, and able to give my kids all they need—even through me & my plate dropping ways.
Maybe the message for you (or for me 🙃) is that you need to take something off your plate—it often is. But if God has called you to a full plate, full home, full life, then you can trust Him for all that you do—and all the things you leave undone.
So get comfy with your weakness, because it will always be with you. Boast in it and thank God that it keeps you humble and dependent on Him. He is a strong God—the only One who accomplishes His to do list. And when you come to the end of yourself, you will find him there, sustaining you.
When you are weak, then you are strong.
