You Are a Family on Mission

You Are a Family on Mission

As foster parents, the way we “defend the fatherless” (Isa. 1:17 NKJV) is by inviting them into our homes to become one of us. Part of that “us” includes our children, who are along for the ride of anything and everything the family takes on as a unit. They’re the big sisters and the little brothers, the welcomers and the “Let me show you around”–ers, the babysitters and the buddies, the roommates and the mentors.

Your children may embrace each foster placement as “sibling,” or they may not. They may be very involved in providing care, befriending a peer, welcoming kids into the family, or they may not. But in one way or another, foster care will touch their lives significantly. It will serve them well to understand that together you are a family on a mission, ready to do the good works God has prepared for you, deployed by Mom and/or Dad, in service to the Lord. We decide for ourselves and for our children: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Josh. 24:15).
