EMILY: ON FOCUSING ON THE CALL + GETTING HELP + LEARNING TO LOVE AND SURRENDER

“Inspiring” is one of those words that’s thrown around so often, so I want you to hear this with the fullest definition of the word: Emily Norton is inspiring. Chances are you’ve seen part of her story before and been inspired. The video of her supporting her fiancee–who, by the way, had a THREE PERCENT chance of ever having feeling or movement beneath his neck–as he walked across the stage for graduation went viral and brought hope to the masses. But this is just the beginning. Along with her sacrificial love for her husband, Emily’s devoted her life to caring for vulnerable children. As mom to five adopted daughters and former foster mom to 17 children, she shares so much passion and wisdom with me (you!) this episode. We chat seeing someone’s heart and not just their needs, making crazy decisions and when the people around you may not understand, adopting a teenager, the influence you can make in a foster child in a small time, struggling through anxiety and depression, learning that you can’t fix the people you love, and accepting help yourself. I just loved getting to know Emily, loved getting to learn from her, and I’m so happy to get to share her with you. It’s a good one, friends!

The intro song, The Source, is brought to you by one of the best new worship bands out there, The Evidence. Yes, the frontman is my (talented, brilliant, adorable, Jesus-loving) cousin. No, that's not why I love them.
