VALERIE: ON BEING FLEXIBLE + CHANGING THE TONE WITH YOUR MOM FRIENDS + SUPPORTING ADOPTION WITHOUT ADOPTING

I’ve already learned so much from Valerie Woerner, even before this conversation. As the author of my new favorite mom-book, “Grumpy Mom Takes a Holiday,” her voice has been encouraging and convicting me each morning in my reading. This week, Val and I talk being flexible and releasing control, the f word (fear), the tendency to complain with other moms, how to infuse hope and encouragement into your friendships, playing a part in adoption without adopting, prayer, and the more important things in life (namely, dance shows and crime podcasts and the like). It’s a good one, friends.

The intro song, The Source, is brought to you by one of the best new worship bands out there, The Evidence. Yes, the frontman is my (talented, brilliant, adorable, Jesus-loving) cousin. No, that's not why I love them.

• Val dropped The Archibald Project in our conversation. Follow them for beautiful, inspiring, and well-rounded perspectives on adoption, foster care, and orphan care.

Val Marie Paper is your source for the most beautiful and functional prayer journals. These journals are just a tool, but I’ve found them to be a tool that’s infused joy, direction, and accountability into my prayer life. Check out Val’s adoption journal if you’re walking through the adoption process.

• Val’s reading Life Without Lack, and I mention my favorite book on prayer, A Praying Life.

• Looking for a new podcast? Val is listening to Wellness Mama and Last Seen. I just got done listening to both seasons of Up and Vanished (if you’re feeling a little more daring than Val!)
