Birthday & Christmas & ONE MONTH OF GIVEAWAYS!
The month of July is big in our house. There are two events we celebrate that I’m fairly certain your family doesn’t. One is my birthday, the other is “Christmas in July.” Alas, I think all the families of the world should celebrate both, but I’m coming to accept the fact that they don’t. My birthday is a week-long event. I may be overheard saying “Please? It’s my birthday!” for 2-3 days both before and after my actual birthdate. Christmas in July was (apparently) invented sometime in the 1930s, but perfected by my husband in 2012. On July 25 of this momentous year, my children and I came down to a decorated Christmas tree, a pile of gifts, and the promise of Christmas music/movies/pajamas/cookies. This man of mine, he’s a keeper. Of course, I need something to happen exactly one time to deem it a tradition, and so our annual celebration began.
Of course, these occasions raise a problem for a gal striving towards radical giving, missional living, and the like. Birthday and Christmas(in July) = gifts. Gifts = money wasted. Enter the quest of “shopping with a purpose,” buying “gifts that give,” “purchasing ethically,” or whichever tagline you ascribe to. At actual Christmas (not our made-up-but-no-less-magical July version), I plan on sharing a list of all of my favorite companies and products to buy from. For now, in celebration these two all-important, uncelebrated events, FOSTER THE FAMILY IS HAVING A MONTH OF GIVEAWAYS!
Each week in July, I’ll be introducing you to an amazing organization that’s doing amazing things and selling amazing products. Each organization is working to raise money for or actually hands-on caring for orphans, the poor, and the oppressed. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to tell you about them and let you know how you can follow/support/pray for them, and I’m just as excited to be able to GIVE YOU SOME OF THEIR BEAUTIFUL PRODUCTS!
Here’s how it’s going to work: Each week, I’ll tell you about an organization (some of these organizations are global and create thousands of products, some are just a mom with a talent and a heart of gold), give you a simple step (think “go like the page” or “share this post”), then randomly choose and announce a winner over the weekend.
