JAMIE: ON STAYING GUARDED + PACKING UP AND SAYING GOOD-BYE + TALKING ADOPTION WITH YOUR KIDS
I loved getting to connect with my friend, Jamie Sandefer, for this episode. Jamie is a biological, adoptive, and foster mom, as well as the author of my favorite book for foster kiddos, Love You From Right Here. Jamie and I are super like-minded, it was a joy to just talk it all out. This episode we talk the call into foster care, what it looks like to guard your expectations, letting yourself believe the “a word,” her beautiful book, packing up your foster child and saying good-bye, talking adoption with your young adopted child, eating healthy, NCAA basketball, and more. It’s a good one, friends.
• The intro song, The Source, is brought to you by one of the best new worship bands out there, The Evidence. Yes, the frontman is my (talented, brilliant, adorable, Jesus-loving) cousin. No, that's not why I love them.
• Jamie’s book, Love You From Right Here, is SUCH A GOOD BOOK for reading to your foster kiddos, and especially for sending along with them when they leave your home. If you’re involved with an agency, ministry, or church and would like to purchase the book in bulk, you can get it here.
• Check out the books we discussed: The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom and We Were the Lucky Ones by Georgia Hunter.
• Jamie felt the pull into foster care from a message on 1 Peter 4:
8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithfulstewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
